Description

The Santa Paula University initiated its educational program in Costa Rica in 1994 and is considered to be a pioneer as well as a leading and a specialized Institution in the field of human development thanks to the vision and hard work of its founders.  It has been characterized for sponsoring programs with a high impact in the national promotion of health, habilitation and rehabilitation of a demographic with functional, sensorial and motor limitations.  Such achievement has been possible through the design and development of curricular programs and plans in the formation of professionals in the degrees of baccalaureate, licensure and masters in the areas of Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Audiology, Palliative Care, Early Stimulation and others.

The Institution currently offers five graduate and six postgraduate programs, leading the way for Central America and the Caribbean.  Professionals are highly trained to treat patients from all stages of life including from the mother’s womb to the elderly.  Such range of patient care is thanks to the preparation offered through the Santa Paula University’s programs in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Audiology, Rehabilitation in Sports Injury, Neurological Rehabilitation, and Rehabilitation of the Elderly up to the final treatment in Palliative Care.  All these areas are highly committed with the attention of patients with chronic and degenerative diseases as well as pain management and terminal illness thus returning the patient’s autonomy and quality of life.

From a humane point of view, the Santa Paula University has developed not only its academic program, but has sponsored and founded several Institutions with a social projection.  These Institutions include the Santa Paula Integral Development Institution (IDI) that overlooks community based clinics which offer specialized programs in rehabilitation.  These programs focus on distinct areas such as fibromyalgia, early stimulation and the elderly demographic through its Hearts of Gold Program.
The Institution also counts with the Santa Paula Editorial for the printing and distribution of text books for the academic and Costa Rican population.

The Santa Paula Distributor is yet another of the services which facilitates the access to materials and equipment necessary for the development of academic programs.

The Superior Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Professional on Going Studies (ISEPA) and the Scientific and Academic Investigation and Development Institute (IIDCA) were created as strategic supportive entities for the academic activity.

Without leaving out campus social action, the Santa Studies, the Sport Association, the Santa Paula Cultural and Artistic, the Palliative Care Association and several others which follow in the Institution’s vision of maintaining the quality of life.
